Sandycove Community Fundraisers - 2011

The most successful fundraising event held to date was the Annual Fashion Show and Sale held June 9 - 11th this year.  The Sandycove Community Fundraisers Group is comprised of about 150 people making up the numerous "Teams" that  put together displays over a period of a couple of months and then on one final weekend in June have a giant sale and fashion show.  All proceeds go towards the Royal Victoria Hospital Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre.  This year a cheques was presented to the amount of $8,600.00.  Over the last couple of years the group has now raised $44,800 towards this cause.  Representatives from the Hospital Auxiliary were presented with a cheque and they once again thanked the Sandycove Team for their outstanding efforts.

Shown at left are Joyce Ferren (l), Wayne Hubbard, RVH Auxiliary President, Ron Young and Lil Gemmell during the cheque presentation.

A special thanks to Sandycove Acres for hosting a great 40th Anniversary  celebration and especially the Pig Roast BBQ.  This was held September 14th & 15th and saw well over 1,000 residents of Sandycove join some dignitaries and Sandycove employees and management in celebrating our life style in Sandycove.  There were presentations made by Federal (Peter Van Loan), Provincial (Julia Munro) and Municipal (Barb Bagley) representatives to Rod Rice and Trevor Robertson of Sandycove Acres for their contributions and their fulfillment of a plan.  Also there were presentations made to "original" residents still living here in Sandycove.  The picture shows from right to left Trevor Robertson, Mr Ross, Eileen Hardy and Rod Rice accepting mementos for 40 years as residents.

The Provincial ALL CANDIDATES MEETING was held Saturday September 17th at the Wheel with about 75 people in attendance.  We heard the various platforms from the 3 primary party candidates. (shown from r-l) Julia Munro (incumbent - Conservatives), Gloria Reszler (Liberals) and Megan Tay (NDP) each made brief presentations.  A  specific question regarding the health care issues in Sandycove was asked by John Bicknell, President of the host Home Owners Association.  The meeting was then opened to the floor for questions with numerous residents coming forward including Town Councilor Maria Baier with more questions about the heath care issues of Sandycove. We thank everyone for attending as Sandycove is usually a favourite all candidate meeting for most politicians to attend during election campaigns.
