Sandycove Home Owners Association Achievements

The following is a summary of projects and key activities over the years that YOUR Association has been responsible for implementing.

Satellite TV - in the park was originally purchased by the residents (1986) to enable free TV to all channels including HBO until the CRTC changed regulations (1992). This resulted in a closed circuit TV. Sandycove Home Owners Association negotiated deals with four different companies. Residents voted on the package they preferred.

Health Clinic - with assistance of Sandycove Acres the Association organized a visit (2001) to Queens Park to meet with the Minister of Health; this resulted in a meeting being arranged between then Minister Tony Clement, Sandycove Acres’ Rod Rice and Association President Peggy Parker at Queens Park. Following this the Minister came to Sandycove and it was decided that we would become a satellite of BCHC (Barrie Community Health Centre) who are still operating the local clinic (opened in November 2002) at the Sandycove Mall. The Association also held Health Fairs for about three years to promote the Health Clinic. This is planned as an on-going event.

Consumers Gas – The Association was instrumental in getting Consumers Gas to come into the park (1996) and further arranged for various gas contractors to come to the Wheel and explain the various types of furnaces available and costs.

Highway Safety - The lights at Lockhart/Highway 11 were the result of the Sandycove Home Owners Association (2003) going through the entire park to obtain signatures on a petition to be handed to the Innisfil Mayor. He had suggested this be done for him to present to Council.

Highway Safety - One of the latest petitions undertaken just a couple of years ago (2006) was for a road division at Lockhart/Highway 11 for a turnoff to the extension of Lockhart.

Resident Safety – The Association worked with Sandycove to have backup generators installed in all three recreation facilities to compliment emergency preparedness planning in the event of disasters. There is a 3 day period where, according to federal guidelines, residents must ensure they have adequate supplies and accommodation. For more info please visit the Emergency preparedness pages, click here.

Lockhart Crosswalk - The crosswalk at the Sandycove Mall was also instituted as a result of Association work (2002). Cost of $5,000 from the Association with Sandycove Acres paying the remainder.

Air Conditioning – following numerous discussions with Sandycove Acres regarding the new Phase 7 development it was agreed that air conditioning be installed in both the Wheel and the Spoke (2007).

911 - When 911 was coming into the park all the homes had to be numbered by streets and not as previously by lot numbers. The Association arranged a number plate exchange at the Wheel which was very successful and cost effective.

Home Fair – has become an annual spring event to help residents make renovation decisions. Many people make their renovation plans through the interaction accorded at this presentation.

Rent Control – the Association went to the Ontario Rent Control Board when Sandycove Acres was requesting an unreasonable rent (1985) increase before new Provincial laws were put in place.

Provincial Organization - Sandycove Home Owners Association was very instrumental in participating in the creation of a Province-wide organization called “Federation of Land Leased Communities”. Originally there were 12 members that represented our communities in issues with the Provincial Government. This group has now been disbanded due to lack of interest.

Brochures – have been developed by your Association to provide information on Selling Your Home, The New (2006) Residential Tenancies Act and General Information brochure covering the Sandycove Home Owners Association.

Our strength is in our membership.

Annual fee is $10.00
